From highway to walkway: in 2013, a nearly one-mile stretch of road along the Seine became a pedestrian-only area called Les Berges de Seine. In 2017, with the addition of another 2.8 miles, the two car-free areas became Parc Rives de Seine. Stretching from Pont d'Alma by the Eiffel Tower to the Musée d'Orsay on the Left Bank, and Place de la Bastille to Pont Neuf on the Right Bank, the space is much more than a walkway. There are rotating exhibits, performance spaces, cafés and bars, exercise equipment, gardens, hammocks, climbing walls, and play areas for kids, all of which are free for the public to use. On the Left Bank, make sure to stop by the floating garden, l'Archipel des Berges de la Seine Niki-de-Saint-Pierre. Sixty trees, 300 bushes, and some 3,000 plants make up this mini park, where you can enjoy the scenery from a hammock or eat lunch on the benches. On the Right Bank, play pétanque under Pont Louis Philippe.
